Detective Michael Shayne was created by Davis Dresser (writing under the pen name Brett Halliday). "Dividend of Death," the first of more than 60 novels featuring the Miami-based private detective was published in 1939. The adventures of the "reckless red-headed Irishman" came to radio over the Don Lee Pacific Coast Network beginning October 16, 1944 and were heard over the entire Mutual network two years later.
