Film star William Gargan came to the NBC airwaves in 1951 as the star of Barrie Crane, Confidential Investigator, a reworking of his earlier Mutual radio series (and NBC television program) Martin Kane, Private Investigator. When the producers of the earlier program objected to the many similarities between the two series and between the names Kane and Crane, changes were made in Gargan's new series, which was quickly retitled Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator. The series aired over the NBC Radio network from October 3, 1951 through June 30, 1955.
